UDH - How are the Ultimate Probiotics Cultured?

Probiotics are cultured in a nutrient agar designed to grow specific strains. The agar contains a sugar source, a protein or amino acids source, vitamins or a vitamin source (e.g., yeast), and maybe an acid source to keep the pH low. The protein source is typically derived from milk or meat; however, some research groups are exploring vegan protein sources to make probiotics for vegans.
